We're so excited to introduce the very first Umami From Scratch Mother's Day Special Box—a limited, small-batch offering close to my heart, inspired by my Mum and the flavors she loves most.

She's a tenacious home cook who raised me on fearless, boundary-crossing food—French desserts, Chinese breads, and everything in between—with the mantra "no fixed rules in my kitchen." This box is my love letter to her.

Each box includes:

  • Cardamom Date Cake — a warmly spiced date cake with a nutty seeded topping, finished with an espresso tahina Swiss meringue buttercream. My Mum's verdict? "Not too sweet—the best thing you've ever made." Coming from an Asian mother, that's basically a Michelin star.

  • Mozzarella Saag Milk Bun — deeply spiced braised greens and melty mozzarella tucked into a pillowy Hong Kong-style milk bread bun. East meets East, in the best way.

  • Doenjang Broccoli Cornish Pasty — a nod to the traditional hand-crimped pastry of Cornwall, made with a whole wheat hot water crust and filled with broccoli and doenjang—the deeply savory Korean fermented soybean paste that adds a rich, umami depth to every bite. Old world technique, new world flavor.

  • Okinawa Purple Sweet Potato Ginger Canelé (pair) — caramelized, custardy canelés topped with a ginger-spiced cream cheese and candied purple sweet potato. My Mum's absolute favorite—a treat she and my pup Mochiko have been known to happily share.

Every item is handcrafted entirely from scratch in small batches—because that's the only way she ever did it, and the only way I know how.

Presales go live April 30 at 6 PM, until sold out. Pickups will take place May 8–9 in the evenings at our usual Streeterville location.
